What is the Sympathetic Dominance?

Long standing stress can result in the adrenal glands becoming overworked and fatigued. This can lead to a cascade of problems that may seem unrelated.

Symptoms may include

  • recurring shouldered neck tightness causing headaches
  • fatigue and irritability
  • General malaise, brain fog and trouble with concentration and memory
  • sensitivity to light and noise
  • light sleep and vivid dreams
  • Mood swings, anxiety and depression
  • digestive upsets including leaky gut
  • hormone imbalances, known as oestrogen dominance, that may be responsible for infertility, PCOS and uterine fibroids

What can you do about this?

  • Specific rib adjustments as well as using a Posture Pole or SD Roller
  • There are a range of supplements that may be use to lessen the inflammatory burden on your body
  • Red lenses and other additions to screens
  • Structured chill out time everyday

Leaky Gut Syndrome

Long standing or severe adrenal fatigue can result in increased permeability of the gut allowing toxins, wastes and undigested food particles to slip through into the blood stream. This can lead to an increase in inflammatory markers called cytokines over a period of hours or days after exposure, and an IgG test will show the presence of this in Leaky Gut Syndrome. Cytokines can cause a variety of reactions throughout the body.

This is different to an immediate allergic reaction (IgE response diagnosed with skin prick tests).

Symptoms include

  • Bloating and water retention
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Diarrhoea or constipation
  • Inflammation of the skin (psoriasis, eczema and dermatitis) or joints (arthritis)
  • Chrohn’s disease
  • Ulcerative Colitis
  • Inflammation of the myelin sheath (MS like symptoms)
  • Inflammation of the nervous system

What can you do about this?

  • Talk to your chiropractor about a IgG blood test (this is different to the skin prick tests for allergies) to diagnose  your food sensitivities
  • Once discovered remove offending foods from your diet for around 6 months. It may be possible to reintroduce some foods with the lowest sensitivities after this time after a staged reintroduction.
  • Treat the gut lining with a good quality probiotic recommended by your chiropractor
  • Treat the gut lining using bone broths
  • If problems are severe and long standing other supplements may be  required

Oestrogen Dominance

Long standing or severe adrenal fatigue can result in an imbalance in Oestrogen and Progesterone resulting in oestrogen dominance.

Symptoms include

  • Painful / heavy / irregular periods
  • Mid cycle spotting
  • Uterine Fibroids
  • Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
  • Infertility due to anovulatory cycles
  • Depression, anxiety or irritability
  • Weight gain and water retention / bloating
  • Headaches
  • Thyroid imbalances (hair loss, insomnia, etc)
  • Gall bladder disease

This is exacerbated by Xenoestrogens which are chemicals found in the environment that mimic oestrogen and include

  • Some skin creams, fake tanning lotions (check the labels)
  • Foods containing pesticide and herbicide residue (eat organic)
  • Food or drinks stored in containers containing BPA 3or7

What can you do about this?

  • Address the adrenal fatigue as previously discussed
  • Avoid xenoestrogens as discussed above
  • Talk to your chiropractor about USP certified bioidentical progesterone cream
